Once a year, the Latin America and Caribbean missionaries gather with their families for a conference. This time of renewal incorporates worship, study, and fellowship. During blocks of scheduled programming for adults, it’s important to care for the region’s many missionary children. The goal is twofold: having fun and nurturing their faith.
- Spread the Gospel by providing Christ-centered activities for missionary kids so parents can fully engage in regional conference keynotes and other activities
- Contribute to the effort to plant Lutheran churches by ensuring missionaries return to their fields of service refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready for another year of service to our Lord and by taking time out to engage with them and learn about their vocations.
- Show mercy by demonstrating Christlike love for this special subset of young people with unique experiences and needs and building lasting relationships with them and their families.
You will work with your team to prepare and lead a Vacation Bible School for approximately 50 missionary kids, ranging in age from infants to teens. We will provide a curriculum for you to use as a framework. There are also evening babysitting opportunities during 1-on-1 meetings and kid-free “date nights.”
Qualifications: Team members must be members of an LCMS congregation. Teaching/youth ministry background is helpful. Since many of our missionary kids are boys, we would really like to have at least two men on the team. Additionally, we are seeking at least 3 Spanish speakers to join this team; Portuguese would be helpful, as well.
Dates: August 2-7, 2027
Cost: $50/person (airfare not included)
Cost Includes: food, lodging, project costs, coordination and international medical insurance.
