Week-long Spanish Language Intensive for Church Workers — Dominican Republic

The United States includes more than 63 million Hispanics. This makes it the second-largest Spanish-speaking country in the world. In the LCMS, more than a dozen district presidents report a lack of Spanish-speaking pastors.

Because of this need, LCMS International Mission is now offering a one-week immersive Spanish course, just for church workers. In one week, you will spend twenty hours immersed in the Spanish language and Latino culture in the Dominican Republic. Additionally, you will learn from local Lutheran pastors, seminarians and missionaries.

LCMS International Mission has three pillars that guide all of our work: spread the Gospel, plant Lutheran churches, and show mercy. During this week, you will grow in your ability to spread the Gospel by more effectively proclaiming the Word to your Hispanic brothers and sisters. You will participate in planting Lutheran churches by expanding the Spanish footprint via Spanish-language outreach efforts. And by approaching Latino community members with a desire to build relationships in their heart language, you will show mercy.

Note: Participants with some prior Spanish language learning experience will reap the most benefit from this opportunity.

Qualifications: Students must be a rostered church worker, current seminary student (pastoral or diaconal), or the spouse of one of those.

Dates: August 23-30, 2025

Cost: $900/person (airfare not included)
