Teacher — Africa

Education is one of the most basic common threads that weave through cultures around the world. Children everywhere need to learn. In Africa, many of our partners operate schools. These schools present opportunities to serve alongside our brothers and sisters as they serve their local communities. Lutheran Teachers get the chance to teach while also supporting our work to spread the Gospel, plant Lutheran churches, and show mercy.

Missionary teachers get to work in the classroom, teaching children the Word of God. They also teach from a school-selected curriculum in subjects such as Math, Reading, History. Through their instruction, they have an opportunity to impact families, helping to build them up in the faith.

Do you love working as part of a team while also having responsibility for your classroom? Do you love detailed advance planning so that you can be flexible in response to individual needs? Are you able to adapt your classroom management style to the needs of the children and the culture?

LCMS International Mission is currently seeking to add teachers for elementary, middle, and secondary schools to our Africa team. Jesus said in Matt 9: 37-38, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Background & Characteristics of Teachers

✚ Commissioned teacher of the LCMS, with Bachelor’s degree in education
✚ Active LCMS member
✚ Strong sense of Lutheran identity
✚ Experience in teaching preferred
✚ Speaks a foreign language, or willingness to learn
✚ A self-motivated and self-directed strong work ethic
✚ Able to initiate and maintain relationships with people both within and outside the church
✚ Excellent communication skills with both children and their parents
